The Dyna Story

The Dyna era began in 1991 with the FXDB Dyna Glide Sturgis, continuing the factory-custom tradition established by the FX Super Glide in 1971. Its chassis and engine mounting arrangements offered a new direction for Harley-Davidson’s big-twin cruisers.

The lineup grew to include names such as the Low Rider, Wide Glide, and Super Glide. A defining Dyna characteristic was its conventional pair of rear shock absorbers, giving these motorcycles a different look and feel from the concealed rear suspension of Softail models.

The Dyna family ended after the 2017 model year, when several familiar model names moved to the redesigned Softail platform for 2018. Even after its retirement, the Dyna’s straightforward styling and riding character continue to make the family a prominent chapter in modern Harley-Davidson history.
