The Road Glide Story
The Road Glide appeared in 1998, building on Harley-Davidson’s earlier Tour Glide tradition of frame-mounted aerodynamic bodywork. Its distinctive sharknose fairing became the model’s unmistakable visual signature, separating it from the batwing-equipped Street Glide and Electra Glide.
Unlike a handlebar-mounted fairing, the Road Glide’s outer fairing stays fixed to the frame while the handlebars turn. That design changes the rider’s visual and steering experience, while the underlying touring platform provides the highway range and luggage capacity expected of a full-size Harley-Davidson.
Through successive engine and technology updates, the Road Glide has kept its bold appearance and purpose as a machine meant to cover ground in comfort.
Model specifications and equipment vary by production year; this is an independent overview.
