The Fat Boy Story

The Fat Boy entered the Harley-Davidson lineup in 1990 after prototypes were shown to riders during the late 1980s. Its broad tires, distinctive solid cast wheels, heavy visual presence, and silver-toned original finish stood apart from the wire-spoke, narrow-wheel customs that dominated many earlier designs.

Built on the Softail platform, the Fat Boy joined classic custom styling to the comfort of rear suspension hidden beneath the motorcycle. Its profile soon became one of the most recognizable silhouettes in the Harley-Davidson family, reinforced by its appearance in popular cinema.

Over time, engine and chassis updates changed the Fat Boy mechanically, but its defining idea has remained remarkably consistent: a bold, minimalist American cruiser designed to make a statement without unnecessary ornament.
