The Electra Glide Ultra Story

Harley-Davidson launched the Electra Glide in 1965, adding electric starting to the company’s big-twin touring line. As fairings, luggage, audio systems, and rider amenities developed, the Electra Glide evolved into a motorcycle built for ambitious highway travel and two-up comfort.

The Electra Glide Ultra Classic arrived for the 1989 model year, making premium touring equipment central to its identity. In 2010, the Electra Glide Ultra Limited joined the range with an even more fully equipped long-distance specification; later the name was shortened to Ultra Limited.

With batwing fairing, luggage storage including Tour-Pak-style rear capacity, passenger amenities, and an emphasis on sustained comfort, the Ultra family reflects the touring side of Harley-Davidson’s heritage. “Ultra Glide” is a common informal shorthand rather than the official model designation.
